The law also outlines certain situations where the punishment of retribution is waived, in accordance with Islamic law.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Retribution for Intentional Murder in Saudi Arabia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Retribution is a punishment imposed by Saudi Arabia for murder, rooted in Islamic law, as outlined in the Quran in Surah Al-Baqarah: &#8220;O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered &#8211; the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But whoever overlooks from his brother anything, then there should be a suitable follow-up and payment to him with good conduct. This is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy. But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment. And there is for you in legal retribution [saving of] life, O you of understanding, that you may become righteous.&#8221; Since retribution is derived from Islamic law, it is mandatory due to the gravity of premeditated and heinous crimes.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The punishment of retribution serves as an effective deterrent, reducing intentional murders by adhering to the principle of justice or fair compensation for both the deceased and their family. It also sends a clear message to society that intentional murder is a grave matter and will not be taken lightly.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Retribution applies to cases of premeditated murder and can also be applied in cases of quasi-intentional murder. However, it does not apply to cases of accidental or unintentional killing.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Waiving and Forgiving Retribution in Saudi Arabia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Saudi law allows for the right to waive and forgive retribution, resulting in the punishment being lifted for intentional murder. The prison term is no less than six months, and the fine does not exceed 200 pounds sterling. Either or both penalties may be imposed.<\/li>\n<li>If a person causes death in a car accident and flees the scene, the penalty is 300,000 Saudi riyals.<\/li>\n<li>If the perpetrator was intoxicated during the crime, the penalty is imprisonment for no less than one year and no more than five years, along with a fine ranging between 100 and 500 Saudi riyals.<\/li>\n<li>If a person unintentionally kills more than three people, the penalty is imprisonment for no less than one year and no more than seven years.
